Whooo's the Grad? HSSCSC#69

It's that time of year again... Graduation's are among us! I decide to make a few simple generic graduation cards and here is one of them.

Really this card is pretty simple. I started by sponging the clouds using Bashful Blue ink on Whisper White card stock, then I used the Two step bird punch and punched out the leaves and glued them to the Whisper White piece.

Next I die the the Early Espresso letters using the Big Shot and the Timeless Type Alphabet after I stamped them using the Wood Grain background stamp, glued them on and then made the owl using the Owl punch and put him on the card using Dimensionals.

The inside is stamped with a simple "congratulations" sentiment.

There it is...a pretty simple and cute graduation card and it just happens to fit with the Hand Stamped Sentiments challenge this week to Paper Piece! Go check out their site! :)

Kevin's Graduation Cap- SCIC05

It's week five for the Stampin' Celebration Inspiration Challenge! This week we are inspired by this set of pictures. It was perfect for me, because I needed to make a graduation card for a recent high school grad and his school colors are green and black!

Here is what I came up with! I didn't wan the card to be too girly or cute, so I stuck to pretty simple and basic things. I made the graduation cap by following the tutorial I made here, I just made it bigger so it would be the size of the card. I then added the paper tassel to the hat. I used my White Gel Pen to "draw" on the hat top like they do on real graduation caps.

In this picture you can see I embossed the Garden Green card stock using the Big Shot and the Diamonds embossing plate.

Fringing Ribbon (and adding it to a Graduation Cap for a Tassel)

Here is a piece of fringed ribbon. It can be used for many thing in paper crafting. A few of the things I have used it for is hair and a tassel for a Graduation Cap I made.

Things you will need are some grosgrain ribbon in the color of your choice and a pair of small scissors.

1. Cut a length of ribbon off your roll. Then cut one of the finished edges off of the whole length of the ribbon.

2. Next pull the fibers from the ribbon away from the finished edged you didn't cut off.

3. You should now have two pieces. They should look like this. You can throwaway the one on the left. The fibers (on the right) are what we will be needing.



4. Now take your fibers and tie them into a knot closer to one side.

If you are using the fringed ribbon for hair or something else besides a tassel for a Graduation cap, you are done! Just add to your project!

5. Now take your Graduation Cap and punch a hole in the middle for the brad. Don't poke it all the way through. Take your fringed ribbon and wrap it around your brad and then secure your brad. The brad should hold your ribbon in, just make sure you wrapped it around the brad tightly.

6. Here is what it should look like. Notice the extra fringed ribbon sticking out of the brad on top of the hat? Cut it off using some little sharp scissors.

7. Here is what it should look like as a finished product.

How to Make a Gradutaion Cap

This owl is wearing the Graduation Cap we will be making!

Here is what you will need:

• 1 1/4" x 1/34" black card stock
• Ruler
• White gel pen
• Cutter
• Key Tag Punch
  
• Tape or glue
  
• Brad and ribbon
  

1. Mark each side of your rectangle at the half way points.



2. Draw lines connecting your half way points.

3. Cut along the lines. It should look like this now. (You can throwaway the little triangles).

4. Now punch a Key Tag out of black card stock and cut about 3/4" off one end. (You can throwaway the bigger piece).

5. Tape the two pieces together so it looks like a graduation cap.

6. You can add a brad in the center of the cap and some frayed ribbon (click here to see my tutorial) to make a tassel and you are done!

Owl Grad- Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge #18

It's Sunday and you know what that means...another Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge from Karen! Here is her sketch this week. Last night before I went to bed, I knew I had to make a graduation card today and was hopping that I could use Karen's sketch, and I did!


Here is what I made! I knew I wanted to have an owl on the graduation card, so I decided to make a punch art one, I think it came out cute! He even has his graduation cap on and his diploma in wing!

The owl is made using More Mustard, Sahara Sand and Whisper White card stock. I sponged around him a bit. The branch he is sitting on I cut out and then die cut some Little Leaves using the Big Shot to add to it. I used the stamp set Great Grads with Versa Mark Ink on the Bashful Blue background to make my own DSP.

The tassel on the cap is even in the appropriate colors for the grad who is receiving this card! I made the tassel by first dying some ribbon a darker green and then frayed it and mixed it with some white frayed ribbon. I hope she likes it!

Grad- Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge # 17

Here is Karen's Sweet Sunday Sketch this week. I needed a few Graduation cards, so that is what I went with.











Here is my card. Pretty simple this week, but it gets the job done!
